Cheryl draws inspiration from her immediate surroundings on the Central Coast of NSW, where the convergence of National Parks, inland waterways, and the ocean inspires her creative exploration. Living in a community where the ocean plays a central role in the landscape, she finds inspiration along its beaches, cliffs, and lagoons.
While much of today’s art scene is preoccupied and driven by identity politics and world concerns, Cheryl’s sense of purpose is derived from exploring her place in the natural world. That is where her meaning and message are allowed to flourish. For Cheryl, painting is a response to the beauty that surrounds us. The immersive quality of her work is intentional, inviting viewers to experience the elements of nature – the stillness of the morning, the contrast of scale between cliff and ocean, or the captivating reflections in water. Each canvas becomes a portal into these moments, encouraging a deep connection with the natural world and the colours of life.
Cheryl’s art is not a retreat to nature; but an exploration of finding one's place within it. There's a profound calmness in belonging to something greater than oneself, and her paintings are the many worlds where she finds her sense of calm.
