Through her urban, hand-layered mixed media paintings Denise Buisman Pilger, evokes memories and reconnects her audience to precious moments in time. As a frequent globetrotter, she has called Amsterdam, Fort Worth, Montréal and Nagoya home, taking each relocation as an opportunity to explore the world and gather inspiration.
Despite a lifelong struggle with goodbyes, Denise chose to live a life in which she has to say goodbye to everything familiar on a semi-regular basis. With the next goodbye always lurking around the corner, Denise has an uncontrollable urge to capture every inch of the places she visits. In her studio, she fuses her photographs into condensed memory scapes.
Her creative process involves photo manipulation, acrylic image transfer and hand-layered mixed media elements, her visual vocabulary is always unique and always authentic. From her home-based studio, she produces powerful, contemporary cityscapes that elicit memories of the past and inspiration for the future.
Originally from Amsterdam, the Netherlands, Denise has a Bachelor of Arts in Illustration from Willem de Kooning Academy of Arts in Rotterdam.
